Roots
Has a large, fleshy tap root below the surface of the compost.
Flowers
Large yellow, with a tinge of orange or brownish-yellow, from near stems bases.

Blooms in spring.
Spines
Tiny, pectinated less than 1 mm long.
Stem
Fan shaped, thin, only about 5-10 mm thick, forming tiny brain-shaped mounds, and dark brownish-green coloured, but green in the new growth.

Thin, elogate, brown felted.
