Central Spines
3 to 4 much longer, and usually pastel to tan coloured, they are straight except for the uppermost one, which may reach 2-3 cm of length, flat, and often curved upwards.
Description
The Echinofossulocactus sp. LAU 1564 is a solitary plant, up to 20 cm tall, 10 cm wide with very large and decorative areoles.
Stem
Spherical, flattened, the ribs are numerous (up to 50 or more) thin, with very undulated or curled ridges.
Radial Spines
There are about 4 bristle-like, silky, almost transparent radial spines pointing downward, 1-2 cm. long, whitish to cream-colored and partially erect; may be missing from upper areoles.
Areoles
Very large and showy filled with white wool.
