Description

Etymology: "Pseudo" means false, hence false Acanthocereus.

Two species which closely resemble Acanthocereus have been broken out of that genus, which was their original placement. The reason for the distinction had much to do with differences in the seeds and fruits. Plants are branched, sprawling and clamoring with long thin stems. The stems are ribbed with 3-7 acute ribs lined with raised areoles. Spines are thin and white or gray and are many, but not formidable so as to obscure the stems. The flowers are long funnels with spiny floral tubes that give rise to round spiny, yellow fruit, which is odorous and yellow. One species is from Venezuela and the other from Brazil - neither are found in cultivation.
