Description
Etymology: Named for the town of Samaipata which is located near the habitat of this genus.
The genus Samaipaticereus is another of several monotypic genera of columnar cacti and is likewise seldom found in personal collections and occasionally in botanic gardens. The stems feature distinct ribs, number 4-6 and resemble many species in the genus Cereus, but differ primarily in the flower structure. In this case, having a short floral tube that have scales, hairs and bristles. Fruits are round and dehiscent and have black seeds in a distinctive orange pulp.
