This genus was created as recently as 1997 to include two species: P. bahiensis and P. brauniorum. The former is listed here under Arrojadoa while the later has no synonyms. The species <i>P. brauniorum is suspected by some to be an intergeneric hybrid involving Pilosocereus.Plants are ribbed, short columns which produce bright-pink tube-shaped flowers near the stem tips. An endemic of Brazil, these plants are found in limited populations in the wild.
